ROARINGWILD was founded in 2010 in Shenzhen, China by Chinese designer Chen Cong-hua as a contemporary streetwear-and-luxury hybrid brand specifically focused on what Chen described as 'a deliberately-Mainland-Chinese-youth-aesthetic streetwear-and-luxury vocabulary anchored to contemporary Shenzhen tech-and-youth-culture references.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2010 Mainland-Chinese-anchored contemporary-streetwear brands. The ROARINGWILD vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: heavyweight cotton tees and hoodies with the brand's iconic ROARINGWILD typography logo and shifting seasonal Chinese-cultural-reference graphic-design motifs, deconstructed denim and workwear-derived streetwear trousers, the brand's iconic ROARINGWILD technical-fabric outerwear programme (bomber jackets, oversized parkas, technical-fabric shell-jackets), deliberately-architectural cotton-and-linen ready-to-wear, and a colour palette anchored to washed-black, oxblood, ecru, washed-navy, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red, electric-blue, butter-yellow, and the iconic Mainland-Chinese-youth-streetwear aesthetic accent combinations. The brand is independent and held by Chen. ROARINGWILD operates approximately 30 retail flagship stores across Mainland China — anchored to Shenzhen (the brand's home flagship), Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, plus international wholesale through SSENSE, HBX, Patta, GR8, Lane Crawford, and a curated set of contemporary-streetwear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the most-visible post-2010 Mainland-Chinese-anchored 'youth-streetwear-luxury' brands operating outside the broader Shanghai-and-Beijing-fashion-week-aesthetic ecosystem.
