About
A bilingual hub for streetwear, designer fashion, and the cross-border shopping that connects them to China.
What CALMAR is
CALMAR is a bilingual encyclopedia of streetwear, designer fashion and outdoor brands — paired with the practical tools you need to actually buy them across borders.
We started because the information you need to navigate this scene — brand histories, where to buy, customs and forwarder logistics, sizing across regions — is scattered across English forums, Hong Kong magazines and Chinese WeChat threads. CALMAR is an attempt to put it all in one place, in both English and 简体中文, with an editorial point of view.
In the catalog
Who it's for
Readers in mainland China navigating cross-border purchases, overseas Chinese keeping current with the scene back home, archive collectors hunting Japanese designers, sneakerheads watching drops, and global readers who want substance over press-release recycling.
How we decide what to cover
No paid placement. No PR-driven coverage. We index brands that have actually contributed to the culture — labels with archive depth, designer continuity, a coherent point of view, or a specific story worth telling. We avoid pure hype-cycle reposting.
Coverage is global, with particular depth on East Asian (Japan / Korea / Hong Kong) and European scenes that are often under-reported in English-language media.
Practical tools
If you're buying across borders, these pages do the unglamorous work — currency, tax, sizing, forwarders, vintage:
About the founder
CALMAR is run by Marc Yu, a fashion buyer based in Toronto. Years of sourcing from designer labels and East Asian boutiques made one gap obvious: the bilingual hub he wanted — one place that maps the global brand landscape with both an editorial eye and the practical information a mainland-China cross-border shopper actually needs — simply didn't exist. So he built it.
Personal interests lean toward archive Japanese designers (Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Margiela's CdG-era work), independent menswear designers, technical outdoor (Arc'teryx, Salomon collaborations) and sneakers — though catalog coverage extends well beyond what he personally collects.
Affiliate disclosure
CALMAR is funded by affiliate revenue. Some outbound links — particularly to retailers like SSENSE, END., Mr Porter, Farfetch and others — are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking, the retailer pays us a small commission at no cost to you. We disclose this site-wide and on individual deal cards.
No retailer pays for editorial placement. The internal check is simple: we never recommend a brand or retailer we wouldn't tell a friend to use.
