Mfpen was founded in 2015 in Copenhagen by Danish designer Sigurd Bank as a contemporary luxury menswear brand specifically focused on what Bank described as 'a deliberately-Scandinavian, deliberately-recycled-and-sustainable contemporary-luxury vocabulary anchored to deadstock-fabric and recycled-yarn production.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2015 Copenhagen-anchored 'sustainable-luxury-menswear' brands. The Mfpen vocabulary settled around several specific products: deconstructed deadstock-fabric and recycled-yarn knitted sweaters (the brand's defining product category since 2015 — the iconic Mfpen Logo knit and Mfpen Standard knit have been the brand's anchoring products), deconstructed cotton-and-linen tailored separates with hand-finished detail, the brand's iconic Mfpen Loose Trouser programme (a defining wide-cut tailored trouser product), the iconic Mfpen Pension Jacket and Mfpen Made jacket (deliberately-deconstructed casual-tailored outerwear), and a colour palette anchored to washed-cream, oxblood, ecru, washed-charcoal, soft-pink, washed-navy, plus the brand's recurring use of natural-undyed and traditional-Scandinavian-aesthetic colour combinations. The brand has presented at Copenhagen Fashion Week each season since 2017. The brand is independent and held by Bank. Mfpen operates flagship retail in Copenhagen (the brand's home flagship) plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MR PORTER, MATCHES, Dover Street Market, the Boontheshop network in Seoul, Beams Plus, and a curated set of contemporary-luxury-menswear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the most quietly disciplined post-2015 Copenhagen-anchored 'sustainable-luxury-menswear' brands.
