Chenpeng
Chenpeng was founded in 2015 in London by Chen Peng, a Beijing-born designer who graduated from London's Royal College of Art. The label's defining product was clear from the first collection: extreme oversized down jackets, often three or four times the wearer's frame, that simultaneously serve as architectural sculpture and gender-fluid garment. The 2017 'I Love You' down series went viral in Chinese fashion media and put the designer on the international map.
The vocabulary expanded from the down jackets to encompass exaggerated knitwear, oversized tailoring, and unisex constructions that read as both performance art and serious wardrobe. Rihanna wore Chenpeng's red XXL down coat in a 2017 paparazzi shot that has since become an anchor image of the brand's cultural moment. Chenpeng remains based between Beijing and Shanghai with a presence at Shanghai Fashion Week and selected Paris showroom appearances.
The brand is independent. Chen Peng continues as sole creative director and majority owner. Production is in China, with sales through a curated wholesale network in China (LookBook, Labelhood) and a small set of international retailers. Few Chinese designers have built such a singular silhouette signature — the Chenpeng oversized down has become a shorthand reference in Chinese contemporary fashion criticism.
